Senior Research Fellows

Dr Anne J Kershen FRHS FRSA

Dr. Kershen’s main area of research over the past 20 years has been immigration, both past and present, with a particular focus on London and the UK. She founded the Centre for the Study of Migration in 1995 and was its Director until 2009, when she semi-retired. She is now an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Centre and is continuing with her research which currently is a comparison of the impact of immigrants on rural and semi-urban areas - the case study being Shropshire - with that of recent and present settlement in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. In addition she is just about to start research into the subject of religion in the lives of immigrant women, centring on Calvinism (Huguenot women), Judaism (Eastern European women) and Islam (Pakistani/Bangladeshi women). Dr. Kershen has published widely and is series editor for the Ashgate series, Studies in Migration and Diaspora; she has appeared on radio and television and acted as a consultant for a number of features on immigration in London.
